With so much chaos going on in the world, it’s important that you spend time disconnecting from it all and learning how to ground yourself. With the heightened attention on spirituality, you may have heard of the term grounding before, but not have fully understood what it meant or why grounding is important in your life.

Grounding can mean something simple such as connecting with the Earth. The reason why that is beneficial is because when you are connected with nature, it allows you to be more connected with yourself. We think too much sometimes abuse our bodies in direct and indirect ways. Grounding helps to cleanse and neutralize this. We also carry magnetic and electrical energy that the Earth can manipulate to help us feel more in balance. When something is off, it absorbs energy that can cause issues, much like the electrical energy in your home has to be grounded.

Another type of grounding that is also beneficial is connecting to the core of who you are. You may also hear this called being centered. When you are rooted in your values, beliefs, and spirituality, it is much harder to throw you into a state of confusion or chaos. It doesn’t mean that you are stubborn and never learn new things or experience growth in your life, but it does mean that that you have devotion and conviction for the things that you believe are important in life. Being grounded in who you are will be your rudder when you are steering your metaphorical ship-- it will be your north star to keep you moving in the direction that you desire.... Towards your highest and best good.

When you are ungrounded, you may feel like you zone out often. Like you are daydreaming all the time or thinking all the time and distracted by your thoughts. You may also notice that you are all talk and ideas but lack action and follow through. Sometimes, when you are out of touch with yourself or out of whack energetically, you can even feel sick.

When you are grounded, you feel physically strong and you feel connected to your purpose. You may also notice that you no longer feel numb to the things. You feel alive. Your senses are heightened. You don’t live life in your head or try to escape reality and pretend that everything is OK. You participate in life and you take actions on the things that you desire.

Those things all sound amazing right? Well, I know it’s only amazing if you are able to become grounded so here are a few things you can do to ground yourself. You can:

  • Eat a meal… not junk…. Eat something balanced and something that is good for you

  • Carry around a crystal or stone. A good one that can help with grounding is Onyx

  • Gardening and getting your hands in the Earth or walking on grass barefoot help

  • Physical activity: sex, dancing, exercise are all great examples

I would encourage you to start with those simple things to help you feel more grounded/centered when you feel like life is getting the best of you. Also, when you feel like you have been thrown out of whack, don’t forget that these four simple things can help you regain your footing and get back on track.
